TAPIR

TAPIR

TAPIRUS INDICUS

This animal is easily recognized based on its pattern which is white and black. The white color covers from the shoulders to the back. While the rest is black except for the tip of the ear where it is common with other tenuk species which are white. Such a pattern is very useful as a camouflage where the pattern makes it difficult to identify as a tenuk and predators may recognize it as a large rock especially if the tenuk sits on its back to rest or sleep. The tapirs at the Johor Zoo are the second and third generation tapirs that breed naturally at the Johor Zoo .
